The work includes preparing principals, coordinating specialist advisers and supporting discussions, with the approach reassessed as new information emerges.
Scope of work
Strategic options & decision support
Assessing the courses open to the client, their political and institutional dependencies, and likely responses from governments or counterparties. Advice identifies what to pursue, defer or reconsider and the evidence needed before a further commitment. Scenario analysis examines which developments would warrant a change of course.
Institutional engagement
Identifying the institutions and people who can advance a proposal, the sequence in which to approach them and the information or authority they need to act. The work includes preparing principals, agendas and correspondence, coordinating specialist input and supporting expressly authorised discussions.
Negotiation & settlement support
Understanding the interests, constraints and authority behind a negotiating position. Periplus helps clients distinguish firm requirements from bargaining positions, develop proposals and sequence reciprocal commitments. The work identifies differences in the parties' priorities that may create scope for agreement. Support includes preparation, attendance where agreed and interpretation of responses in commercial negotiations, government discussions and dispute settlements.
Agreement implementation & durability
Assessing whether undertakings are being carried through and advising when implementation stalls or circumstances change. The work identifies where responsibilities are understood differently, which dependencies remain unresolved and what requires renewed discussion. Continuing advice assesses whether an agreement remains workable through changes of personnel, ownership or policy, and where revision may be needed.
Form of instruction
An assignment may begin with a specific decision or build on an existing intelligence mandate. Work can include an options assessment, an engagement or negotiation plan, principal and delegation briefings, meeting support and continuing advice through implementation.
Where a matter requires local counsel, technical specialists or other professional advisers, Periplus helps select the advisers and coordinates their contributions. Each remains responsible for their own professional advice.
Continuing collection tests whether the evidence still supports the recommended approach. Contrary findings and grounds for changing the advice are reported.
External engagement on the client's behalf requires express written authority and an agreed scope. The client retains control of its decisions and commitments. All work follows the firm's compliance protocols. Periplus does not promise approvals or a particular outcome.
